About the class:
Course Overview
This class introduces students to paragraph writing using the Four Square Writing Method. It targets older students who have yet to master writing solid five-sentence paragraphs.
Learning Objectives
Over the six-week course, students will:- Understand paragraph structure.- Add details and support to their writing.- Develop the skills to craft quality paragraphs.
Class Activities
Students will engage in discussions to deepen understanding, modeling to see effective writing examples, independent practice to apply what they’ve learned.
Requirements
Students should be able to write or type and have a basic understanding of complete sentences.
Weekly Assignments
Each week, students will:- Complete a Four Square outline.- Write one paragraph independently based on that outline.
Evaluation and Feedback
I will evaluate student progress through their written paragraphs, providing weekly feedback. Depending on this feedback, students may need to revise and resubmit their paragraphs.
Next Steps
Upon completing this class, students will be prepared to enroll in an introductory course in essay writing.
Class Format:
Our weekly class meetings will be held via Zoom. Students will access their lessons, print worksheets, submit assignments, join discussions, and view their feedback through our classroom platform, Canvas.
I strive to keep our class sizes small so we will have between 4-6 learners in class. This is a good number for student interaction:)
