FULLFILL YOUR DREAMS

Educational Resources

These resources are designed to help you excel on your academic journey toward success. I encourage teachers and parents to use all of the tools that are available to ensure that every student has the ability to succeed and thrive.

Plolypad
Polypad is a great resource for virtual math manipulatives. Manipulatives can take up a lot of room so this is an alternative and it is free:) It is one of my favorite tools to use during my tutoring sessions if my students don’t have manipulatives handy.

ReadWorks
New resource suggestion for teachers and parents: Readworks.org is a great source for reading practice as it has great short stories of many genres. It allows students to submit work online and track their progress completely free.

MathGames
This week’s technology tool is mathgames.com which is an easy to use platform to assign standards based math practice. The program provides score reports and it is wonderful for differentiation. The program works with Google classroom and Edmodo so you can import your classes. mathgames.com
Teacherswithapps
This site is a great overall resource when looking for educational apps to use in the classroom. It is organized by age group and subject area. The apps they list on the site have been tested by the authors. I found many interesting ones but felt like I had to check the apps out to see if there were costs associated with them. Here is the link: https://www.teacherswithapps.com
Duolingo
If you have children or students who are looking to learn another language Duolingo is a great FREE option. The program has a variety of language options and can be downloaded to mobile devices. I tried it out in my native language and felt it was pretty accurate. To try it go to: https://www.duolingo.com.
Blended Learning
In education we often hear about “blended learning” but I often wonder if everyone really knows what this is. I came across an article that explains the 12 types of blended learning and I found it to be helpful. Take a look: https://www.teachthought.com/…/12-types-of-blended-learning/
Tech and Teaching
Many classrooms are now equipped with computers for student use. In fact, many schools are going to a 1:1 classroom. This provides students with new opportunities but also brings challenges. It is important for students to understand cyber safety and practice digital citizenship. The two websites below are great resources on this topic for k-12 educators. https://www.commonsense.org/education/scope-and-sequence….. http://www.digital-literacy.org.uk/Home.aspx
Prodigy Game
Prodigy is a great online math game for students in grades 1-8. It is curriculum aligned and allows teachers to differentiate by student level. Students are able to learn critical math skills and teachers can monitor progress. The program is absolutely free and allows for parent involvement is desired. Check it out: https://www.prodigygame.com.
Kiddom
This technology tip is Kiddom which is a free platform for teachers and students. Kiddom provides an easy way to plan, assess, and analyze learning. Teachers can use one collaborative platform for planning, assessment, communication, and analytics. It is standards aligned, works great with standards based grading, and offers a variety of content areas. EdSurge gave this program a 4 out of 5 rating. Definitely worth exploring, especially if you struggling with differentiation. Here is the link: https://www.kiddom.co
Thrively
I found this amazing tool called Thrively. This program allows you to find your students’ strengths and personality traits. Once students have taken the assessment you will find activities that cater to your students based on their assessment results. I did the assessment just to see what it was like and it was pretty accurate. I posted a screenshot of my assessment result so you can see what it looks like. Check out www.thrively.com
Letsrecap
A new, free ed tech tool I have been playing with is called Recap. This is an educational platform that looks a bit like Twitter. You can post discussion questions in this platform and then students can respond either in writing or by video which I thought was neat. The program integrates with Google Classroom, Edmodo, Blackboard, Schoolology, and Canvas. Here is the link: https://letsrecap.com
Quizalize
I came across a cool new program called Quizalize. This program has quizzes which are really games on a variety of subjects and grade levels. I mostly played around in 4th grade math and thought the activities were fun. Although this program can be used to quiz students, I like it more for skill practice. You also have the option to create your own quiz to send to your students. The account is free so check it out: https://www.quizalize.com Quizalize lets you engage your class and deliver instant assessments for personalized learning on any computer, tablet or smartphone. It helps you quickly identify the strengths, weaknesses and learning gaps of individual students and intervene in real-time to give one-on-one help in the classroom. https://www.quizalize.com
Classcraft
Need a new idea for behavior management? Classcraft is an awesome behavior management tool for students in grades 3-12. I used it with my students last year an they loved it. What makes it so fun is that you manage student behavior through gamification. This program is easy to use, requires minimal time, and it is free. I believe that students enjoy this program because they have buy in as they get to help create positive behavior expectations and consequences. They also get to participate in other fun events such as Boss Battles (content review) and Random Events (silly daily tasks like ending each statement with a multiplication fact). Additionally, students get to learn how to collaborate and work as a team. An added bonus is that you can also get parents involved from home as they too can award positive behavior and see how their child behaved in school. So if you are looking for a new way to manage your class that is sure to engage your students, go here: https://www.classcraft.com
Typeform
Looking for a new way to assess or survey your class? Typeform is a fun, new, free way to do this. It is a web-based platform that allows you to create online forms, surveys, quizzes, and much more. Check it out: https://www.typeform.com… Here is an example of one I created for a lesson on Opportunity Cost: https://michaela82.typeform.com/to/Yfu8TX

I discovered that I could teach students on my own terms without all the additional responsibilities that come along with being a classroom teacher.
